You probably know by now that AGD Auto Glass & Tint Co. can fix chips and cracks on windshields (ie Windshield Chip Repair). But do you know how we accomplish this small feat of engineering?
We talked about what physically makes up a car windshield in an earlier blog and explained that automobile windshields are actually two thin sheets of glass separated by a clear laminate or plastic in the middle. Your windshield is like a glass and plastic sandwich. When a rock flies out of nowhere and hits your windshield it will usually just break the outer sheet of glass. Usually, only at the site of impact will show breakage. The laminate and interior sheet of glass is intact and will continue to keep you safe.
Here at AGD, we have the unique ability (and tools) to insert a clear, liquid resin into the cracked area of the windshield. The liquid resin fills the cracks and cures nearly invisible or clear so little evidence of the initial rock impact remains. Obviously large breaks or multiple impacts are difficult to fix and most times will require a replacement windshield. If you have trouble seeing out of your broken windshield you have to make an appointment to have it replaced as soon as possible.
There is the possibility that you will be cited and ticketed for driving with a broken windshield. If you have a cracked or chipped windshield and are unsure if we can help please give us a call. We can stop the break from getting worse and keep the crack from “running” across your windshield.
In addition, Hot and cold temperatures will cause the crack to take off across your windshield. If that happens, you will definitely need a new windshield. It sure is cheaper for you to have us fix the chip rather than replace the windshield. Plus we can update that worn out tint and help you stay cool by keeping out the hot, Arizona summer UV rays.
