Understanding the Importance of Repairing or Replacing Your Car’s Side Mirror

If your car has a broken or missing side mirror, you need to get help to fix or replace it as soon as possible. Here are 3 reasons why it can be dangerous to drive with a cracked, loose, or missing side mirror.

1. You Could Fail to See Another Vehicle

If you don’t have a clear view out of your side mirror, you may fail to see a driver who is approaching from being you. If that driver fails to stop in time or makes a careless lane crossing, you won’t be able to react in time to avoid an accident.

2. A Loose Mirror Could Flip In or Fall Off at Any Time

Some car’s side mirrors adjustment range allows them to move flat against the side your car. When the mechanism securing your mirror to your car becomes loose or precarious, it could potentially flip all the way inward or outward suddenly. A 90 degree flip could be a serious problem if it happens when you’re driving on a highway at 65 mph. Even worse, your side mirror could fall off of the side of your car completely while it’s in motion, possibly striking another vehicle or creating a serious traffic accident.

3. You May Be Found to Be at Fault in the Event of an Accident

When an accident occurs and it’s unclear or debatable who is at fault, a responding police officer or an investigating insurance agent will likely try to determine who is at fault. If your car has a broken or missing side mirror, it could be construed against you. It’s highly possible that you could be deemed responsible for causing the accident even if it was instigated by something that the other driver involved did wrong.

Don’t let a defective or missing side mirror prevent you from driving safely. Get help right away to ensure that your car will be in safe and working order.
