Why won’t your car window go up or down?
The symptoms help narrow the inspection, but they do not identify a failed part by themselves. Tell AGD which window is affected and what happens when you press the switch.
You hear the motor, but the glass stays still
The regulator, cable, gear or glass attachment may need attention. Hearing a motor does not establish that the rest of the mechanism is working correctly.
The glass drops, tilts or moves unevenly
The glass may have lost support or alignment in its regulator or guides. Stop operating that window and arrange an inspection instead of repeatedly trying to raise it.
The window moves slowly or intermittently
Binding, worn components or an electrical fault can produce similar symptoms. Mention whether it changes with temperature, door movement or repeated use.
One switch works, but another does not
A switch, connection or control issue may be involved. Check the window-lock setting described in your owner’s manual and report which controls still work.
One or all windows stop responding
A single-window fault and a shared power or control problem require different checks. A silent window is not proof that its motor has failed.
The window closes, then reverses
Resistance or an automatic-window initialization issue may be involved, depending on the vehicle. Do not bypass the reversal feature or use your hand to test it. The technician should follow the manufacturer’s inspection and setup procedure.
Your repair plan
Find the cause. Understand the repair.
Start with the symptoms, confirm the work required and know what to expect before approving a repair.
Describe the symptoms
Tell us which window is affected, whether the glass moves and what you hear when the switch is used.
Confirm parts and price
The vehicle and diagnosis determine the appropriate components. Ask what is included in the estimate.
Review the finished repair
Ask about the operation checks, any required setup and the written warranty for the completed work.
Motor, regulator or switch: what needs repair?
The motor supplies the movement. The regulator is the mechanism that raises, lowers and supports the glass. Switches, wiring and vehicle control electronics command that movement, while guides and seals help the glass travel in the right path.
Why diagnosis comes before a parts quote
A stalled window can result from mechanical resistance, loss of electrical power or a control fault. A proper assessment checks glass support and movement along with the electrical supply and commands before selecting a replacement part.
Knowing whether the motor receives the correct power under operating conditions helps separate a motor fault from an upstream electrical problem. Electrical tests and work inside the door belong with a trained technician.
For example, GM’s diagnostic bulletin for specified 2008–2014 vehicles calls for checking wiring, controls, glass alignment and seals before condemning a regulator. The procedure for your own vehicle still applies.
Separate parts or a complete assembly?
Some vehicles use a regulator that can be serviced separately from the motor; others use an assembly or require a particular combination of parts. The diagnosis and vehicle-specific parts information determine the appropriate option.
Ask which component failed, what the proposed part includes and why it is recommended. Replacing a motor alone will not correct every binding or damaged regulator.
Does the glass need replacement too?
An intact pane may be reusable if its attachments and condition are suitable. Broken or damaged door glass is a separate issue to assess. Tell AGD about cracks, shattered glass or a break-in when requesting auto glass service.
What affects power-window repair cost?
A useful quote starts with the vehicle, affected door and diagnosed fault. A switch repair, wiring issue and regulator-and-motor assembly can involve different parts and labor.
- Vehicle and door: year, make, model, VIN and which window is affected.
- Parts required: a motor, regulator, switch, attachment or other confirmed component.
- Access and damage: door construction, glass condition and related trim or guide repairs.
- Window features: automatic operation, frameless-glass indexing or required initialization.
Ask whether the estimate includes diagnosis, parts, labor, any setup procedure and taxes. Confirm how additional damage discovered inside the door will be discussed before work continues.
How long will the repair take?
Timing depends on diagnosis, access, the correct part being available and the checks required afterward. Request an appointment estimate once AGD has your vehicle and symptom details. Same-day completion needs confirmation; it is not available for every repair.
Will auto insurance cover it?
Standard auto insurance generally does not pay for mechanical failure or ordinary wear. Damage from a covered incident, such as a break-in, may be treated differently. Your insurer determines coverage and any deductible. Progressive explains the distinction between mechanical failure and covered damage.
A vehicle warranty, service contract or separate mechanical-breakdown policy may have different terms. Check the applicable agreement before assuming that glass coverage will pay for a failed window motor or regulator.
From diagnosis to handover
What to expect from your power-window repair
Step 1
Assess the window problem
We confirm the affected window and symptoms. The assessment considers glass support, regulator movement and the relevant electrical controls before a repair is recommended.
Step 2
Agree on the repair
Discuss the diagnosis, suitable parts, price and estimated timing with AGD. Availability and any additional damage found inside the door can affect the plan.
Step 3
Check operation and explain care
After the repair, the window needs operation checks and any vehicle-required setup. Ask for an explanation of the work, your invoice and the warranty and follow-up instructions.

Window stuck open in Phoenix or Tempe?
If the glass is loose, tilted or has dropped into the door, stop using that window. Keep hands clear of the mechanism, avoid slamming the door and do not try to force the glass back into place.
Park in a secure, sheltered location when possible and remove valuables. Keep rain and wash water away from an open window. If loose glass, a temporary covering or damage affects visibility or safe operation, ask about a safe service or transport arrangement before driving.
Tell us what happened
Have the vehicle year, make, model and affected door ready. Explain whether the glass is intact, which switches work, any noises you heard, and whether the problem followed a battery replacement, door repair or break-in.
Confirm your repair appointment
Call (480) 289-5108 to confirm power-window service availability, the appropriate location and any parts that need to be ordered. For power-window repair in Phoenix or Tempe, provide the vehicle location and ZIP code. If you need help at home or work, ask whether mobile service is available for your address and repair; some diagnosis or parts requirements may call for a location visit.
AGD’s Southern and Mill service listing is at 3414 S Mill Ave, Tempe, AZ 85282. Call before visiting to confirm that your vehicle and power-window repair can be handled there.
What to check before your vehicle is handed back
Ask the technician to explain the fault found, the parts repaired or replaced and the final operation checks. A window moving once is only part of confirming that the repair is complete.
- Does the glass travel smoothly and sit correctly when closed?
- Do the relevant door switch and driver’s master switch operate as intended?
- Have any required automatic-window or indexing setup steps been completed?
- Are the door trim and disturbed seals or moisture barriers refitted?
Automatic reversal checks should follow the vehicle manufacturer’s method. Do not test anti-pinch operation with fingers, arms or another body part. The 2026 Honda Pilot owner’s manual, for example, explains automatic reversal and its limits. Use the instructions for your specific vehicle.
Coverage and follow-up support
Ask which parts and labor are covered, how long coverage applies to your repair and what you need to report a concern. Review AGD’s written power-window warranty and confirm the applicable terms before work begins.
Keep your invoice and parts information. If the repaired window binds, drops, makes a new noise or stops responding, stop operating it and call (480) 289-5108. Give the service date, vehicle details and symptoms so AGD can arrange the appropriate follow-up.

Power Window Repair FAQs
Does a stuck window always need a new motor?
No. A regulator, switch, wiring, control or binding problem can prevent movement too. A technician should establish whether the motor receives the correct power and whether the mechanism moves properly before recommending a part.
Can the regulator be replaced without replacing the glass?
Often the existing glass can stay if it is undamaged and suitable for reuse. The technician must check the glass, attachments and guides. A regulator failure does not automatically mean the pane must be replaced.
Why does my window work again after a while?
Intermittent faults can relate to electrical connections, motor protection or changing mechanical resistance. Working again does not show that the cause is resolved. Tell AGD when the fault occurs and whether repeated use, temperature or door movement changes it.
What if the window stopped working after a battery change?
Some vehicles require window initialization after power has been interrupted. Others may have a separate fault. Follow your vehicle-specific owner’s manual and avoid a generic reset or battery-disconnection procedure; tell the technician what happened before the problem began.
Why does the window go down but not up?
A control fault or mechanical resistance may affect one direction differently. The switch behavior helps guide diagnosis but does not prove which part failed. Avoid repeated attempts if the glass strains, tilts or makes grinding noises.
Can I drive with a window that has fallen into the door?
That depends on whether the glass is secure and whether the condition affects visibility or safe vehicle operation. Do not reach into the door or force the glass upward. Call AGD for advice about the service location and a safe transport arrangement if needed.
Can I schedule same-day power-window repair in Phoenix or Tempe?
Ask about current availability. The vehicle, diagnosis, correct parts, technician schedule and final checks all affect timing. Confirm both the appointment location and expected completion time before making plans.
Is a power-window repair covered by my windshield warranty?
Do not assume that a windshield installation warranty covers a motor, regulator or switch. Power-window work has separate terms. Read the power-window warranty and ask AGD to identify the parts, labor and duration that apply to your repair.
