Choose the color effect with your own glass in mind

Chameleon window tint is known for a color-shifting appearance that changes with lighting and viewing angle. The effect you see on a photograph may look different on another vehicle, in shade or from the driver’s seat.

AGD offers UltraVision chameleon tint. UltraVision’s chameleon range includes different products, so identify the exact film before comparing appearance, performance or price. Confirm the current options for your vehicle with AGD.

Look at it from both sides

  • Outside: compare the color from different angles and in sun and shade.
  • Inside: assess the view through a sample, rather than judging only the exterior reflection.
  • On your glass: consider the original glass color, existing film and the windows you want covered.

Use online images as style references. They do not establish the finished light transmission, permitted placement or exact appearance of your installation.

Chameleon, ceramic and paint protection are different choices

“Chameleon” describes a visual effect; it is not a universal heat-rejection rating or a single film construction. “Ceramic” describes a type of film technology. Compare the actual product specifications rather than treating either label as a complete performance description.

If solar comfort with a more neutral appearance is your priority, compare our ceramic window tint options. Our general window tint guide explains the broader film and shade choices.

Window tint applied to glass is also distinct from paint-protection film applied to painted bodywork. A chameleon window-tint quote should identify the glass included; it does not by itself include protection for the vehicle’s paint.

Is chameleon tint legal in Arizona?

There is no blanket yes for every chameleon film or every window. The proposed glass-and-film combination, reflectance, color, placement and vehicle requirements need to be assessed before installation.

Check the finished glass, not just the film label

A.R.S. § 28-959.01 specifies 33% light transmission and 35% luminous reflectance for front side windows, each with a three-percentage-point tolerance. The transmission measurement includes the glass and added material together.

UltraVision’s installation guidance notes that light transmission can vary across chameleon film. A nominal specification is not a substitute for checking the finished application. A clear-looking sample or a product described as “road legal” elsewhere does not establish compliance for your vehicle in Arizona. Rear side and rear-window provisions differ; see our Arizona tint guide for those distinctions.

Full-windshield applications need particular attention

Arizona’s top-strip exception uses a bottom edge at least 29 inches above the driver’s seat, measured by the statute’s specified procedure, and excludes red or amber material. This is not general permission to cover the entire windshield with a color-shifting film.

Professional installers also have federal obligations. NHTSA’s interpretation of aftermarket tinting explains that regulated businesses may not make required glazing performance inoperative. State tint allowances alone do not settle what a business may install.

Have AGD confirm the permissible product and placement before booking. If the requested appearance cannot be achieved on the chosen glass within applicable requirements, discuss a different film or coverage plan.

Separate the color effect from heat and UV performance

Request specifications for the exact model

A color-shifting finish does not establish how much solar energy a film rejects. Compare products using the same measures and comparable test glass and methods.

  • VLT: visible light transmission describes the amount of visible light passing through the tested sample.
  • Reflectance: review how much visible light is reflected, alongside the appearance and applicable limits.
  • TSER: total solar energy rejected is useful for comparing overall solar-control performance under comparable conditions.
  • Infrared and UV figures: check their separate test ranges and methods. Neither is a guaranteed percentage drop in cabin temperature.

Ask for a current product data sheet when comparing a chameleon option with another tint. A model name, color name or headline percentage is not a substitute for those details.

Prioritize the view you need for driving

Discuss night driving, low-light conditions and any concern about reflections or color appearance through the film. An attractive exterior photograph cannot demonstrate the view from inside your vehicle. UltraVision’s selection guide describes different interior color impressions for different films, making the exact model and a sample review useful.

Tell AGD about cameras, sensors, head-up displays, antennas and existing glass coatings so the proposed product and coverage can be assessed. Do not assume that every chameleon film works the same way with every vehicle feature.

Solar-control performance and UV rejection are separate benefits. 3M’s automotive-film definitions illustrate why infrared measures and total solar energy rejection should not be used interchangeably.

Film can reduce solar load through treated glass, but a parked vehicle can still become dangerously hot. UV rejection also does not establish that interior materials will never fade.

Plan a chameleon tint installation in Phoenix or Tempe

Send AGD your vehicle’s year, make and model, ZIP code, desired color effect and the glass you want tinted. Mention existing aftermarket film, factory privacy glass, damaged glass or window-operation problems.

Compare the complete quote

  • Film: exact brand, model and selected option, with current availability confirmed.
  • Coverage: each included window and the agreed legal placement.
  • Preparation: whether old-film removal and adhesive cleanup are included.
  • Price: installation, applicable taxes and any separately assessed work.
  • Documentation: care instructions and the applicable product and installation warranty.

Vehicle shape, glass size, access and removal work affect the job. Compare equivalent products and coverage instead of treating every “chameleon tint” price as the same package.

Confirm the installation setting

AGD serves Phoenix and Tempe drivers. Confirm the appointment address, product availability and estimated completion time before arranging your visit. If you need mobile service, ask whether this particular film and job can be accommodated at your location.

Application needs a suitable environment. Describe the workspace and access when discussing an alternative location; do not assume that the mobile glass-replacement service means every chameleon-tint job can be completed outdoors.

Agree on the work before it starts

Review the selected film, existing glass condition and any removal work with the team. New film does not repair scratches, damaged glass or a failing window mechanism. A roof, sunroof or other specialty-glass request needs its own compatibility and coverage assessment.

Request a chameleon tint quote

Know how to care for the film you choose

Get instructions for the installed product

At handover, ask about the film’s drying period, when windows may be lowered and when cleaning is permitted. Appointment time and drying time are different, and instructions should match the actual product and conditions.

Some temporary moisture or haze may be part of drying. Ask what is expected for your installation and when AGD wants you to report a concern. Do not press, puncture or peel the film to try to remove a bubble.

Once cleaning is permitted, follow the specified cleaner and cloth recommendations. Avoid scraping or abrasive cleaning. Contact AGD about lifting edges, peeling or persistent appearance concerns before attempting a repair.

Keep the model and warranty details

Request the written warranty for the exact chameleon film and glass application. Confirm who provides coverage, its duration, the eligible owner, covered defects, exclusions and whether labor or removal is included.

AGD’s published automotive-film warranty specifically addresses SunTek film. It should not be treated as the warranty or care schedule for UltraVision chameleon products. Confirm the terms supplied for your installation.

Keep the invoice, film model, selected option and care instructions together. If an issue develops, that record helps identify the installed product and the applicable claim process.

Chameleon window tint FAQs

What makes chameleon window tint change color?

Its appearance changes with lighting and viewing angle. The particular film, original glass and surroundings affect the result. Review a sample from inside and outside instead of expecting one photograph to predict the appearance in every condition.

Can chameleon tint cover my entire windshield in Arizona?

Do not assume so. Arizona’s windshield top-strip exception is limited, and a high-VLT or clear-looking film does not automatically authorize full-windshield coverage. Professional installers also have federal glazing obligations. Confirm the proposed product and placement before booking.

Does a 70% or 80% film label prove the finished window is legal?

No. The film label is not a measurement of the glass and film together. Reflectance, placement, color and applicable vehicle and installer requirements also matter. Have the proposed installation assessed rather than relying on a seller’s general road-legal claim.

Is chameleon film the same as ceramic tint?

No. Chameleon refers to a color-shifting visual effect; ceramic refers to film technology. The exact product determines its construction and performance. Compare model specifications, appearance and price rather than assuming the labels are interchangeable.

Does chameleon tint always reject more heat or UV?

No universal performance level follows from the color effect. Compare the exact product’s solar-energy, infrared and UV data with the alternative you are considering, using comparable test conditions. A high infrared number is not a predicted cabin-temperature reduction.

Will the view from inside look the same as the outside color?

Do not judge the interior view from the exterior reflection. Ask to review a sample, discuss night and low-light driving, and consider the existing glass. Confirm any concerns about reflections, color appearance or vehicle-feature compatibility before selecting the film.

Do you offer mobile chameleon tint in Phoenix and Tempe?

Ask AGD to confirm whether your specific film, vehicle and location can be accommodated. Provide your ZIP code and workspace details. Mobile glass replacement and mobile chameleon tint have different job requirements, so confirm the service setting before scheduling.

Does chameleon window tint include paint protection or a lifetime warranty?

A window-tint installation covers the agreed glass; paint-protection film is a separate product and service. Warranty coverage depends on the exact film and application. Get the applicable terms in writing rather than assuming that a generic lifetime or another brand’s policy applies.
