In May we Celebrate Motorcycle Awareness Month

Posted by Jaime Block on May 03, 2016

Summer is here in Arizona, which means motorcyclists will be hitting the road for the 2016 riding season. Safety of these riders has become a major concern simply due to the issue that hundreds of Motorcyclists die each year from driving related fatalities due to lack of following the rules by other drivers

May is National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, which happens to be a way to advise motorists to share the highway & closely look for people driving motorcycles, specifically at intersections as well as while making both lane changes as well as turns. Drivers could easily misjudge how fast and how far an approaching motorcycle is because of the smaller dimensions. To prevent accidents, motorists should verify the location of a motorcycle a minimum of 2-3 times before proceeding through the intersection or making a turn.

In addition, motorcyclists need to make sensible judgements to reduce their risks of fatal or serious injuries. Motorcyclists can take extra steps to practice safer driving habits by wearing the correct gear and reflective tape or bright clothing. Just as well, obeying all traffic laws, driving in the middle of the lane to increase visibility to other drivers, and of course to never drive while impaired or distracted

One of the largest concerns is that Motorcyclists don’t always obey all traffic laws, such as speed limits, and general traffic rules.  When riding a motorcycle, one should always wear clothing and gear that is protective and conspicuous, which includes wearing a helmet that meets or exceeds US DOT standards. Tragically, approximately 2 out of 3 motorcyclists who died in crashes from 2010 to 2014 were not wearing helmets.

During Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, as well as throughout the entire year, motorcycle riders need to be well-trained and responsible. At the same time, motorists who share the road and look twice for motorcycles will help stop injuries and deaths.

At AGD Auto Glass & Tint Co, we support this cause and will help promote the awareness of Motorcycles on the road not just this month, but throughout the year as well.

“Look Twice ** Save a Life” Share the Road with Motorcycles.
