Corning Gorilla Glass Was Featured at the 2016 Paris Motor Show
Corning Gorilla Glass is making headlines around the world because of the way it is revolutionizing automobile glass. Corning Gorilla Glass has been used for about a decade in technology applications such as smartphones, tablets, and televisions and Corning has worked to use that same technology but adapt it to accommodate the needs of the automobile industry. Gorilla Glass is far lighter than traditional windshields but has enhanced durability and scratch-resistance over traditional windshields as well. Because Gorilla Glass is so lightweight, it significantly reduces the overall weight of the vehicle and thus how much fuel it uses. More and more automobile manufacturers are taking notice of this state-of-the-art technology and Corning Gorilla Glass for Automotive was recently features at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.
The Paris Motor Show is one of the most important auto shows in the world and is often the place where new technology and concept cars are debuted. Corning describes how Gorilla Glass was featured at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, “And Corning® Gorilla® Glass for Automotive helped demonstrate that future for crowds at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. Two automotive powerhouses – Renault and auto equipment innovator Faurecia – used the tough, thin cover glass on some of the most spectacular aspects of their auto show exhibits. Renault’s sleek Trezor is an all-electric concept car described by auto reviewers as “stunning,” “the star of Paris,” and a combination of “high technology and…natural luxury.” Gorilla Glass added significantly to that style. The Trezor’s L-shaped dashboard is a curved, ultra high-definition display with a Gorilla Glass cover, making the perfect touch surface to connect seamlessly with the driver’s smartphone. The flowing curves echo the sensuous silhouette of the car’s exterior. And because Gorilla Glass is only .7 millimeters thick, it can easily bend and retain its iconic toughness. An additional Corning innovation incorporated into the Trezor: Corning® Fibrance™ Light-Diffusing Fiber swirled into a dramatic treatment along the back-light panels. Faurecia unpacked new technologies for tomorrow’s cars and exhibited the components individually for show-goers to experience. Multi-curved shapes and smart surfaces for the “cockpit of the future” were defining characteristics of their sleek new car console and instrument panel – both covered with Gorilla Glass. The bright displays and superior image quality enabled by the premium cover glass perfectly accommodate what Faurecia refers to as a “digital instrument cluster display.” An especially unique touch – stylish air vent cut-outs, which integrate comfort features while still maintaining the glistening, edge-to-edge cover glass look.” Corning Gorilla Glass is certain to continue making a huge impact in the automobile industry moving forward.
